Life

  • On a recent trip to the Bay area for a photography workshop with Ben and Erin Chrisman, I got the chance to photograph the Jamali family at the beach. They recently moved from the Sacramento area to Berkeley and it was a great time to reconnect with them and continue capturing their growing family. My first session was when Shirin, their daughter was an infant. Since then I’ve captured their family at least once a year including getting to be present at Kian’s birth. Being around them feels like family at this point. They know me well and how I like to…

  • These images make me smile. I’ve known these two for over 10 years. Our kids were in daycare together from the beginning. During one of my recent mentoring sessions  I needed a couple models for some out in the field shooting, so I asked them. I knew they would be perfect. Love these two -warm hearts and a great sister connection! I’d love to photograph your children this holiday season. I’m going to head out this week to capture my children though, somehow, I don’t think it will be as easy:) It never is with your own.

  • I offer complimentary services for birth photography as a special gift to my wedding clients. Births are full of that raw emotion, just like weddings. And, just like weddings, it takes a certain trust and comfort with the photographer to record these life-milestones in a sensitive, graceful, personal way while respecting family members and the process. How grateful I am to be trusted by these moms! I love getting to share in these amazing moments with my couples. They are another step in the lives they began together back when I witnessed their weddings. Check out Katrina’s Family maternity session…

  • Very quickly after arriving in Thailand, Koh Phi Phi, my husband developed a nasty ear infection. Knowing that we were planning to travel by plane up to Chiang Mai, we left for the main land a day early so we could get him to the hospital. This first image is after my husband returned to our hotel, all fixed, after going to the Tourist hospital in Phuket. Literally, he left in a cab at 9:30 am and was back by 11:30am completely healed. In 2 hours time (the hospital was 30 minutes away), we was escorted, treated and then they hailed…

  • If you know me, you know how much I love to travel. I enjoy adventure and the excitement of not necessarily knowing what is going to happen next. As a kid we moved around a lot so I guess I got used to seeing new things and meeting new people. I am grateful when I am able to travel internationally because it opens up my eyes to the world around me. One of my favorite things to do is immerse myself into another culture to find out more about how others live, love and experience the world around them. How…

  •   Enjoy the slideshow. And remember, it is a show that requires Adobe Flash, so put down your iPhone or iPad and watch it on your main computer or one that supports Adobe Flash.  http://www.lisarichmondphotography.com/SHOWITSHOWS-/2014_ChathamHall   I just finished this year’s Graduation slideshow. I never know exactly how it is going to turn out or even what music I will use, but I have found over the years that if I just surrender to the creative process and let it happen, everything seems to fall into place. I am grateful for that. This year sifting through countless images, I’m struck…

  • I made this photograph of Ann in 2011 as she was retiring. While I too had Ann as a junior English teacher, strangely it is not what I remember about her. You see, I was fortunate to spend a few days with Ann every year since my graduation from Chatham in 1984. I stayed with her up until 2011 in her cute little home at the bottom of the hill in Chatham, Virginia. Each night after a day of my graduation photography and her end of the year grades, we would retire to her living room to chat about school news,…

  • Lindia is a friend and neighbor. We have gotten to know each other while sharing a walking group on Mondays and our daughters play together. Up here in our close-knit community of Pollock Pines, when someone is struggling, we all feel it and gather to do whatever it is we can do to help. So, when I learned that Lindia had been diagnosed with breast cancer, I immediately knew it was time to schedule a shoot – some time to capture her fighting spirit and the love and support of her family as she begins treatment. I originally had in…
