One of the very many special privileges as a photographer is the opportunity to capture a family as it grows. Getting a family of five together in one place as children head into their teens – and beyond – can be a tough task. It can be even harder to get that dedicated, relaxed family time without the stress and distractions of daily life. Which is why it was a privilege to be able to capture the Butler family at-play and just enjoying one another’s company recently at Sly Park Lake. Headed over to Gold Ridge on a sunny Christmas eve to capture the Ganno family all in from out of town. This year little Hayes from Colorado was the new addition to the family- just 5 months old. We had planned the shoot for the 23rd but the weather was rainy and I thought it would be best to postpone for sunny Christmas eve. I even had my husband assist me on this one:) A family affair! Thanks to the Stewart family for being in touch to let me know that they were going to be in town and wanted to have some new photographs since the birth of their daughter. We headed up country this time to Alder Creek since Coloma was so stinking hot. Amazingly enough, these river folk (with a son named River, even) had not ever been to that spot and have added it to their repertoire of river cool down locations. I had another great evening at Sly Park lake enjoying the wonderful light during an engagement session with Bill and Stephanie. They have been together for four years and are counting down the days/minutes to their all-day celebration at Stephanie’s parents home in Placerville. Bill and Stephanie are fun and fun with each other. Stephanie is super easy going and a natural beauty. When Bill is not helping to plan the wedding(ie construction at the Cutter home) he is out on the river on his jet ski. He has invited me to join him and his friends, to photograph them…

I woke up for a sunrise shoot for Amy and Ryan. Just sayin’. If you know me, this is rare. I am a night owl. I shoot the late afternoon light as much as I can. Since Amy and Ryan are a couple who are game for anything- I was too! This was the final of three Tahoe shoots I had that weekend and a great way to start the day(along with the cup of coffee I started the hike with:)  Since I usually shoot in the evening- it was bizarre to have the light increase as we went along…

I’ve known Mark and Barbara for quite some time now- from back in my bay area music days! In fact his good friends brother is married to my best friend’s, husband’s sister. Good luck following that! When it’s right it’s right. Instantly we were all having a blast enjoying the great outdoors of Lake Tahoe. Kim and Sean are vibrant, warm and athletic and I was so excited for their paddle board session. Our plan was to use Donner Lake “proper” but the wind was howling that day which sent us to a small inlet behind Donner Lake. I’m looking forward to their August Truckee wedding!
