Apple Hill Photographer

Last week I met up with Little Miss Madelyn and her mom, Michelle at Larsen’s Apple Barn Park (thank you Lynn) for some photographs in the beautiful morning light to capture this big, happy ball of personality. What a love! I’ve been photographing Michelle and Tim since their engagement and am always happy to get to spend some time with their family. Before you know it, a year will have passed and Little Madelyn will be celebrating her first birthday. Crazy…it does go that fast. 

Devan is one. Well, really, 15 months. And isn’t that just how it goes when you are working parents trying to make it all happen between traveling jobs, new home buying, moving, childhood bugs, the unpredictable weather and all of that? I think the Little Family were the first folks we met when we moved to Pollock Pines in 2000. Bob and my husband Jeff have worked together as foresters since then. If am not mistaken, at that time Jack was an infant, my daughter Jaz, just a future thought, and Kim was driving school buses for the district while studying for her masters. I could have gotten the timeline completely wrong, which sadly, wouldn’t surprise me at all. I love when I get the opportunity to photograph the Littles, who, by the way, aren’t so little anymore. Getting a family of five together in one place as children head into their teens – and beyond – can be a tough task. It can be even harder to get that dedicated, relaxed family time without the stress and distractions of daily life. Which is why it was a privilege to be able to capture the Butler family at-play and just enjoying one another’s company recently at Sly Park Lake. Eldest son, Josh, was heading off to Air Force boot camp not long after our session and so his mom, Tracie, was especially emotional at having all her” babies”…

It is definitely one of my favorites things to get to document the growing families of my previous wedding couples as they move through life, and John and Elisha’s Lil Miss Teagan is no exception. I have the best job. And, it’s the people that I work with that are most responsible for that. Yes, of course, I live for “creative flow” but without those folks that always warm your heart, I wouldn’t be sitting here while there is a mountain full of snow just up the hill. Friendly, smart, personable…another wonderful afternoon with a graduating El Dorado High School Senior-Dakota Keeton, Class of 2013. Dakota enjoys water polo and with a little prompting, he humbly told me about the several colleges he was applying to. He also expressed interest in traveling and living abroad after college, perhaps Chile in South America. We spent the last part of the session shooting in the sprinkler system facing the sunset. He commented that he wasn’t really getting that wet.  My gear and I on the other hand, were drenched!  I came home and let my gear dry out again, ready…

Well, one thing is for certain, little Aria is so, so loved. I first met Todd and Linda  a couple years ago when they asked me to take some photographs for their adoption portfolio and just about 6 months ago, they adopted sweet Aria who has the brightest eyes and smile. What a love! Linda has been out doing what any new mother might do at the holidays, buying cute little things for her new daughter to wear.
