Weddings

  • Vicki and Wayne purchased their Folsom home with the goal of fixing it up especially to host their intimate-affair, September wedding and I was honored to capture their celebrations recently. Their ceremony and reception took place poolside shortly before sunset and with lights strung overhead. Vicki forgot her bouquet at the end of the aisle and, as one is able to do in a home environment, Wayne so sweetly ran into the house to bring it to her. I loved the his-and-hers ribbons strung from their gazebo, holding their rings in lieu of ring bearers, and the fact that Wayne…

  • Nate and Shelly are good friends of mine. In fact, if you’ve been following my blog, you’ll remember Nate’s name from my previous post about Kirby and Sam, as he was the primary photographer for their wedding. Nate really wanted me to photograph his wedding this September (and even consulted me on a date that he knew I would be available) and, believe me, I really wanted to photograph him and Shelley too. But like Kirby and Sam’s wedding, here was another party where many good friends would be present and where I really did want to kick-back a little,…

  • I wasn’t going to photograph Kirby and Sam’s wedding. Kirby is the son of one of my really good friends, Mary, and I had fully intended to attend their Montana wedding as purely a guest. Our mutual friend, Nate, was on-point as the photographer for the day and so I knew they were in good hands. But then I arrived and I saw the mountains, the green grass, and breathed in the lovely, clean air and I couldn’t let the idea go that I had to photograph this wedding, at least in part.  Nate had everything covered but I wanted to…

  •   Michele and Michael’s nuptuals took place in a beautiful private residence in Somerset, CA. The home belongs to Rick and Janice Wickham, who were Michele’s parents growing up through kinship care. They occasionally host weddings on the grounds for friends and family and I had actually shot a wedding there several years before for Miranda and Brian, which is how Michele and Michael came to know me. So many lovely touches to this wedding too. Michael’s father created a wooden “Happily Ever After” sign that hung near the ceremony site. The couple also participated in a tree-planting ceremony, blending…

  • May in Tahoe and the weather forecast was uncertain. Snow had just fallen on the mountain peaks and the wind was, shall we say, brisk. On Friday, gray clouds crested over the hill and the outlook on my assistant’s weather app was for rain right at the moment we were due to be standing in the middle of Squaw Valley’s famous meadow with our bride and groom. We checked our umbrella inventory and made contingency plans.

  • Julianne and Daniel chose to get married on 12-13-14 at Haggin Oaks Golf Club in Sacramento. This was the last sequential day for 20 years and also the anniversary of their first meeting at MIX, a dance club in Sacramento, where Julianne decided to passed along her phone number to Daniel. They texted all night long and well, the rest is history. Julianne told me early on that they are both laid back and that the most important thing at the end of the day is that they are “husband and wife”. They were so grateful that they got to celebrate with their family and…

  • With canyon view backdrop and accompanied by both a string quartet and family members’ acoustic harmony, Kristin and Jason were married recently in Kristin’s own backyard, the beautiful home of her parents, Richard and Karen, in Placerville. It was a magical day full of joyful people, not least the groom himself, a playful, charismatic who originally hails from New Jersey. Jason and Kristin just love to laugh and they brought everyone along with them, (including two photographers and an assistant) and their wedding party which included Jason’s brother and Kristin’s two close cousins. It’s also wonderful to connect personally with the families I meet; somehow my…

  • 9.20.14: the wedding day of Jamie and Roman, and the infamous King Fire started just one week before. If you were getting married that weekend in the Pollock Pines area, you weren’t really sure where your wedding would be. After several days of thick smoke-filled skies, a bit of blue emerged through the billows for Jamie and Roman’s wedding at Sierra Banquet Center. Although the King Fire had pushed northeast settling our nerves down a bit locally, everyone’s knee-jerk reaction was to look up when they heard planes flying overhead to see what kind of aircraft it was; a jet dropping fire retardant,…

  • 10 years ago, Chuck was listed as one of the top 10 most eligible bachelors in Sacramento Magazine (as was mentioned quietly to me when I inquired how they met). Then Chuck met Julie. On a perfect, breezy day on the North Shore, Chuck and Julie had a sweet, quaint wedding at the gorgeous backdrop of Christy Hill Resturant in Tahoe City. Fun-loving, light-hearted, they gathered their friends and family with lots of good food and joking around. What a great way to commemorate starting married life together! Julie and Chuck are active and like to bike and run together. They share a…
